I'm curious about the J-mod. I would like to ride in a so-modded car.

As for me and mod motors, I've had a couple of Cobras and I want some grunt more than I want the revs. I'm tired of wind-up motors. (For now, anyway! Watch, next week I'll come home with an S2000 or something and everyone will say, Huh?)

This one was fairly extreem, and I won't be auging mine out as much, but it made my unmodified one feel like a big ol' marshmallow by comparison.

Just joined up after a Google search. it IS now possible to bolt in (yes bolt in) a 5.4 32V engine into 96 and later Mustangs. Have to use "C" heads, and I use the Aussie Boss intake. Fits under a stock hood.

It can be adapted to other platforms as well.

I wonder whether adapting the intake to face the other direction will cause any problems.

That is a cool Mustang. Any plans for a kit to bolt them into Panther platforms?

It seems to me if it'll go in a little mustang wouldn't it fit a Panther by default?

That is pretty sweet. Outside my budget and goal of stock-looking setup though.

with the exception of the moronic wiper motor location on a panther, yes anything that fits in a mustang should by default fit in a vic.

i've been wondering how a s/c 3.8 swap would work mileage wise - if i could keep performance at or a little better than the stock 4.6 quickness wise. i can pick up a whole rusty super coupe sub $500 and make the $ back on rear end and ground effects.

Couldn't you just cut the hood and something like a Harwood cowl scoop to clear the 5.4? I mean it would look daft as hell but it should work.

Only thing I was concerned about was the intake and the exhaust. Frame rails are a little tight on the 02- cars and the intakes all feed in driver's side, not passenger. And that stupid wiper motor...

The Panther platform (Marauder) has the TB on the driver side. As far as intake, it would actually be easier than a Mustang. This pic is an unmodded intake sitting on a Navi long block.

    Bumped from the dead!

I know you started this swap. How's it going? Drive it yet? Any surprises along the way?

    Post pics!

Instead of swapping to a 5.4 why not just add forced induction? Probably cheaper to do the motor swap? Has anyone looked in to this?

    well it's 90% done. Still.
I got that far in no time. Then it got really cold out and I haven't worked on it in months. Still need to put the wiper box back in. Serpentine belt isn't on it yet. And I'm fighting an EGR tube that doesn't want to thread into the exhaust manifold. Once that's all sorted I'll make a full build thread or something outlining the details. There weren't a ton of complications really.

@ Dean; I'm right on track to have this job done for $1000 altogether.

    Next stage will be heads/cam

If that doesn't satisfy, a little boost.

There's a pretty good article in the latest issue of Hot Rod on these engines that may be worth a look.

mod motors in general or what

Whoops, my mistake - the article is in the April issue of Car Craft. It's about the 4.6 - stroker kits, what blocks and heads to use, converting to 4V heads, etc. Hot Rod does have an article on the new 5.0 Mustang engine.
