    Does this seem a bit high to anybody else?

    (edit: obviously I meant 5.0, stupid iPad touch keyboard, you've crossed me for the last time!)

    It sure looks good though, and lots of clean good modifications already done. I've been wanting some kind of performance car for a while now, and I've always liked Mustangs. The Mustang I really want is a 2011 5.0, but buying a new car might actually kill me.

    Probably wouldn't be great at dodging cones though...

    I've seen 5.0 notchbacks sell for quite a bit more.

    Like clean E30's, cared-for 5.0 'stangs are getting a bit rare and are starting to enter the 'collector' market.

    Yeah, that's been my reaction... I just needed a little sanity check.

    I keep pouring over craigslist and everything 5.0 just looks beat to hell, and I mean to HELL. The first decent one I see in my area and my eyes get wiiiiide.

    Yeah, it won't let me edit the thread title.

    My great car search keeps taking me round in circles... It seems that the cars I like are either too new (read: expensive) or two old (read: scary rusty projects or maliciously modified by people with tragically trotted souls). Where is my happy middle ground of a competent daily driver, sporty car, preferably a fun local auto crosser and kinda "ohh, that's kinda cool" for the TSD rallies, in the ten year or so old range so I won't feel like a chump parking it outside?

    Can you imagine how much money clean, unmodded Fox 'Stangs are going to get once they become collectible? Talk about hen's teeth...

    I had seen a mint-ish '93 green notch at a house here in town just sitting for a year or so.Sweet little car. 60K miles...sold for 2K to the nephew of the lady that owned it....for his 16 year old daughter.

    Looks like a good car, it's definitely getting harder to find one in decent shape. I'd get some good underbody pictures before you get too serious, though.

    The 5 lug conversion is nice to have out of the way, since it says it's a '04 conversion, it'll have 4 wheel discs. If they swapped the rear axle out of an '04, it'll be a non-stock width.

    It has an aftermarket exhaust, which is typical on Foxes of that age. It has a cam, but no upgrade to the intake manifold or heads. All three mods (Heads/Cam/Intake) are typically done at the same time, so it's a little strange that just the cam was done.

    The A/C problem will be a pain, as this car will have R12. 5.0 Resto sells the conversion kit to R134a for ~$700. I'm sure you can do it cheaper, but if you want to hang onto it for a while, it probably makes sense to do it right.

    Given that it doesn't have a full H/C/I setup and working A/C, I think that his asking prices is a bit high. I'd look at more like $6-7K, unless it looks just as good in person as it does in the pics (which is very rare).

    While a crummy pic, in June, I stole this 5.0 from the original owner for $1800. It was completely stock down to the original mufflers, struts/shocks. and 10-hole wheels.

    Unfortunately, we just had a 30 minute golfball size hail storm and the car is now considerable less cherry.... And it only had liability... .

    I guess what I really need is a little patience. It is just really hard finding a decent example of any older car up north. I can't imagine buying one where I'd have to fly just to find out it's a dog.

    Dav - Looks great!

    LainfordExpress - take your time, they're out there. Corral.net has some pretty good classifieds, the prices will generally reflect market value, as no enthusiast is going to be willing to overpay. If a car is overpriced on there, they won't hesitate to say it.

    Really the ideal situation is something like Dav mentioned, low number of owners, older enthusiast who may not be on the forums and know the true value of the car.

    eBay has a pre-purchase inspection you can order for something like $99. I believe you could use that service to get a regular car inspected. Someone did that on my notchback when I was selling it, and they spent two hours going over the car with a fine-toothed comb. The guy who purchased the inspection definitely got his money's worth!

    Keep looking on Craigslist and check out the major enthusiast forums, they're still out there. Figure $4-8K for a good, non-hacked one.

    I have my eye out for a clean notch...with Mustangs (as with many perf. cars) you need to do the legwork...gotta go and look at alot of cars to find the right one..
