Let's say you had a bone stock 1996 Civic DX and $800 to spend on modifications what would you do?

The answer: it depends.

Are you planning to autocross or otherwise compete? If so, what class are you running?

I am going to assume that you are going to be AXing in a stock or STS AX class. If so: another set of wheels with sticky rubber would be my first choice, actual sizes etc to be determined by class rules.

Change the oil, put air in the tires, continue driving the bone stock car, and put the rest of the money in the bank.

X2, except I'd go with a market indexed fund.

Somebody has to say it...

Sell it and take the proceeds plus your $800 and get a Miata, because "Miata" really is the answer to every question.

if you are competing in a stock class, get some used hoosiers or alike, then take an evolution class...

Buy a 42" LCD tv and mounted it so the people behind can see it. That way they wont notice you're driving a bone stock 1996 Civic DX.

Can $800 score you one of those fancy-dancy B-series motors that bolt right in? Or maybe a manual trans if your bone-stock Civic is bone-stock AND automatic?

I'll second that. But the only Hondas you'd ever see me owning would power the rear wheels exclusively.

Fixed for my opinion.

What happened to my strikethrough that worked in preview mode? Ok, fixed again above.

But only if you leave it unpainted and curb it repeatedly.

I am heading for either ST or SP. I am not including tires in that cost.

Used Konis - $400
Dropzone coilovers - $150
Alignment - $50
Used 15 x 7's - $200

For tires you either want Bridgestone RE11's, or Toyo R1R's.
