    Just picked up an SVT Focus that i'm really happy with. Less than 6k, maybe way less depending on condition and options, gets a pretty nice, very solid dd.

    mine has records, euro pkg (those cool headlights, factory heated Recaros, subwoofer), one owner less than 6k. your budget leaves a couple bucks for maintenance/upgrades. back seat is a cavern, bigger than the 'family' car Jetta.

    If that Westfalia trips your trigger, my buddy's got one that's a people mover, not a camper, for $3000. Probably less for family.

    Kids are 8 and 9, and we already have the familymobile, so it doesn't need to be a kid hauler. It just needs reasonible seating in the back for the 5 or 6 times a month they ride with me.

    That said, looks like they're going to repair my vehicle, so no shopping for me. Thanks for all the great suggestions, though.
