My wife's AC worked fine in her new to us 2006 Mercedes E350.

That is, until I found this hidden in the fuse box:

I was able to track the part number down to "AC Compressor Control Solenoid" and I get the feeling it's there to keep a code off the computer.  But....  well...

If that's there, what's in its hole?  Why did it work before and not after I laid eyes on it?   (I might check the connections, I did disturb them a little), Is this a normal things kids do these days?

Has anyone seen a similar situation?  If so, can you give me the whos, whats, wheres, and whys?  Perhaps more important, how do I get this back to spec?

Thanks guys.

The car is a Japanese import if that might have something to do with it (maybe they....  well, heck.  I still don't know how to explain it)
