With the American Top Gear coming and so much interest in Adam Carolla's car-guy credentials, it seemed like a good time to post our peek into his garage.

Is it known who will host the show with him? If any.

Yeah, there's been a lot of posts/topics on it. Eric Stomer from HGTV and Tanner Foust, if memory serves.

I have no doubt that this guy is a car guy, but I think the fact that American TV is controlled by advertisers, I think American Top Gear will be a failure. At least as far as I'm concerned. It might be a commercial success, but what I like about the BBC version is that Clarkson, Hammond and May can speak their mind. If they don't like a car, they'll rip it apart. I can't imagine that being ok on our shores where I am sure the likes of Ford, GM or Chrysler will be advertising their goods every 6 minutes.

Also, look at the jokes the Brits crack. They would openly refer to M drivers, now Audio drivers as "cocks". In one of the Skyline GT-R episodes, Clarkson made a beaver joke, and they're always calling each other "gay" for one reason or another.

Over here, everyone gets up in arms whenever something that isn't politically correct is uttered.

I really want this show to be the American version of a BBC hit, but I just don't see it happening.

captainzib, have you ever watched/listened to any show Carolla has hosted? He's most definitely not afraid to speak his mind...that's pretty much how he's got his success, so he knows it'd be stupid to try and go PC when he's always been anything but.

I suspect Carolla will speak his mind no matter what. The worst they can do is fire him, and I don't think he'd be afraid of that. Getting fired for being snarky would be good publicity for him.

I say fubar to being PC. I am no racists, I am no bigot, I just think this whole rave of being PC is f'ing retarded in my opinion.

On that note, I hope Adam Carolla is himself and speaks his mind about the cars. I don't want him to try to be like Clarkson, I want him to be himself because he is hill are e us.

Hopefully the show will rock the party. I really enjoy Top Gear. I like that my wife likes it too, but she says she likes it because of the way the Clarkson and the others play off each other. That and all the crazy challenges they take on.

On a related note, I just got this press release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 18, 2008 GET BBC AMERICA’S TOP GEAR 24/7 ON YOUTUBE BBC Worldwide launches Top Gear Channel on YouTube™

If you’re a Top Gear addict who needs a regular fix of hosts Clarkson, Hammond and May then worry no more. From today you can get select clips of the show any time of the day or night from a new Top Gear Channel on YouTube™ (www.youtube.com/topgear).

One of the UK’s all-time most popular television franchises, the part factual and part entertainment series full of extreme stunts, challenges and weekly features takes extraordinary and ordinary cars to the limit and beyond. In the U.S., BBC AMERICA is the broadcast home of Top Gear, with new episodes premiering Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. In addition, as part of a commitment to expanding the Top Gear experience, an online destination will offer new exclusive content for the U.S. audience, launching this fall.

The new global YouTube Channel will showcase great Top Gear moments such as the epic race between a Bugatti Veyron and a light aircraft, as well as celebrity interviews with the likes of Oscar-winner Helen Mirren and American Idol’s Simon Cowell.

The Top Gear Channel will mark the first time BBC Worldwide has launched a dedicated section on YouTube for a single program brand and reflects the enormous global popularity of the show. The Top Gear Channel will complement the existing BBC Worldwide YouTube page (www.youtube.com/bbcworldwide) and will create an official online space for one of BBC Worldwide’s biggest brands and its legion of dedicated fans.

Top Gear content on the existing BBC Worldwide YouTube channel has already proven itself to be massively popular, with one clip of Jeremy driving the lightweight Arial Atom generating over 3 million views in the last year. New content to be added on the new channel will include the race between an Aston Martin DB9 and a train to Monte Carlo, the team’s attempted English Channel crossing in converted cars and the presenters’ attempt to buy a decent Porsche for under £1500.

In addition to Top Gear clips, the channel will also feature content from the presenters’ other shows. Other programs featured will include Jeremy Clarkson’s MotorWorld, Clarkson’s Car Years, Clarkson’s Extreme Machines and Richard Hammond Meets Evel Knievel.

Simon Danker, Director, Digital Media, BBC Worldwide, said: “Top Gear has a massive audience across the globe so we thought it was time it had its own place on YouTube. The BBC Worldwide YouTube channel has already proven its value to users, having generated millions of views since its launch in March last year. We’re now expanding our portfolio of YouTube Channels to reflect the massive online popularity of certain program brands and to give fans of shows like Top Gear a dedicated destination on YouTube.”

BBC Worldwide Limited is the main commercial arm and a wholly owned subsidiary of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The company exists to maximize the value of the BBC’s assets for the benefit of the license payer and invest in public service programming in return for rights. The company has seven core businesses: BBC Worldwide Channels, BBC Worldwide Content & Production, BBC Worldwide Digital Media, BBC Worldwide Global Brands, BBC Worldwide Sales & Distribution, BBC Magazines and BBC Home Entertainment. In 2007/08, BBC Worldwide generated profits of £117.7million on sales of £916.3million.

I know Carolla speaks his mind, but when was the last time one of his shows revolved around giving an opinion on consumer products? All I can think of is Love Line (I think that's what it was called), and The Man Show.

In fact, his show doesn't even have to be sponsored by an automaker.

What's Top Gear gonna be on? Let's say NBC. If Carolla says that some random car is garbage, do you think the company that makes that car is gonna want to give NBC money even if it's during the air time of a different show?

you know I thought the same thing as well. Then I saw someone at work be terminated on the spot from a very high position for referring to a supplier as a group of "dumb mexicans"

umm. No. pack your things.. no nothing. Get out now.

Want a job at anywhere other than the local autozone parts counter, and you better be good at faking PC.

Say something bad about a car and that company dosen't like offering up new testers. Why do you think there are less horrendous reviews in the big Magazines. Hell Click and Clack haven't tested a GM product in a long time due to this very reason.

You don't have to be PC for that, you just need to say "f'ing idiots." Like I said I'm not racists and don't judge people based on their skin, I just think this PC crazy is out of hand.

Like we can't say retarded at work anymore, because some customer was walking by when I called a co-worker retarded. She pretty pissed because her third cousins brother is mentally handicapped. Raised all hell at the dealership and if we get caught saying it we'll get written up. So now we just call each other super special dumb people.

This "will American Top Gear succeed" has been discussed ad nauseum. Let's see how it runs and praise/bash accordingly.....which is what they do. ;)

Two different people from one of my BMW message boards were at the taping of the first show. They said they were surprised how much like the British version it was and that it actually didn't suck. So, we have to wait and see.

I couldn't love GRM the magazine or the website more, and believe me, I don't like to be the P.C police or anything or the guy who has a problem with everything thing, but I do have a problem with this...

I find it a bit offensive that you use terms like “f'ing idiots” etc etc... for your little descriptions or whatever in the avatars. I myself do not have intelligence, nor am I a sex ed teacher or porn star, but I feel sensitivity for people with sex as I am a student taking berkeleying classes, and my Girlfriend is pursuing her masters in the field.

These terms although I'm pretty sure are not even real words, are obviously meant to resemble the words used to describe people with sexual intelligence impairments, and it appears that they are used on these boards in a joking sense which, as I view it, makes light of people who are afflicted with sexual intelligence disabilities.
