I am putting a RB20det in my jeep Cherokee and what material should I make the plate out of? I figured it would be less fabrication than converting to 5 spd then setting up a diviorced transfer case to keep awd. Stan

You out yo berkeleyin mind? The 4.0 six that is in there now has much potential, much more torque, and will live forever. You want to go with 122CI? Nahh.

Can't you use a R154 5-speed from a Toyota/GM with the proper bellhousing and a transfer case from an appropriate GM/Toyota product?
I ask this because, I believe there was some cross pollination with some of the Nissan products for that transmission as well.

Well my 4.0 has 329k on it and the radiator rotted out and proceeded to run dry, with the temp Gage trying to wrap around . I figure that engine is not long for this world. 15 mpg sucks to. Smaller engine less fuel then add boost when power is needed.

If you have to ask how to make an adapter plate...you may be in over your head with this engine swap. Maybe not...???

smaller engine only equals more mpg when the smaller engine has the balls to pull the vehicle around. i could put a 3.8 in place of the 4.6 in my vic and lose mileage because i'd be forcing the small engine to work hard to move 2+ tons of car.

I seem to recall seeing plates made from 1/2" aluminum.
You said AWD? What year Cherokee are you working on?

I seem to recall people using 1/2" aluminum too. 1/4" steel plate might work.
I've been thinking about maybe welding some blocks of aluminum onto the block of a 1zzfe or 2zzge, then drill and tap the blocks for the Ford bolt pattern of the Renault gear box on the Europa. Still a long way off.

Am I wrong in thinking a turbocharged engine is basically a varible size ? At 15 psi doesn't a 2L think it is a 4L.
