I really need to stay off craigslist.

I went to look at a 73 El Camino tonight. Body looks good, smooth running 350 (supposedly), running and driving and a title for $650...all it is missing is floor pans, driver's side window, misc trim and an un-busted windshield.

The floor pans were beyond swiss cheesed, more like a couple of flakes away from Fred F. feelin' real comfortable. But it felt solid enough when I sat in it. Everything else, fenders, bed, frame, looked solid

On a completely unrelated note, I thought I would never get used to the air bad light on my Miata...but I've come to think of it as comforting...like a heartbeat.

the question is, what do you want it for? parts hauler? cool cruiser? just always wanted one?

    In reply to Spinout007:

    The answer is...
    D. Both A and C are correct

I've always wanted one and I need a parts hauler. The 4th gen (74-77) isn't my 1st choice but it is hard to shrug off a running/driving $650 elky.

Plus, I really like My Name is Earl. So, once I have the cool ride, Carolina can't be far behind...right...right?

LMAO! in that case go for it, rivet in some sheet metal floors coat it in black bedliner, modest wiff of n2o and enjoy

It is mine. I used my battery and got it for $500. Here is the CL ad (while it lasts): 1973 ELCAMINO

The motor runs good, it has an aluminum intake and aftermarket carb of currently unknown origin and 1/2 of a dual exhaust system. The seller told me it ripped off while unloading it from the trailer.

I drove it 6ish miles to the house right through the middle of town and no one batted an eye. It has a half uncorked V8, one working headlight and one working brake light. I love living in a small town in the south.

It really isn't that much bigger than my Miata. A couple of feet longer and maybe a foot wider, about the same overall dimensions as the club cab Dakota I used to have.

Apparently, my Miata is jealous and decided to puke her slave cylinder today. I got to work fine but I was goin' nowhere at lunch. I couldn't select gears and there was no resistance on the pedal. Luckily, some fluid and furious pedal pumping got me going again. I picked up the part on the way home and it is going on tomorrow or this weekend...weather and grumpy Miata willing.

Wow, that was fast. I saved the pics from the ad and added them to my reader's ride entry for it.

    Don't you mean Catalina?

All the attributes of a ten-years-younger-Joy without the attitude...

Yes...yes I did. I made all kinds of mistakes in this thread but was too lazy to go back and edit.
The lovely and talented Nadine Velazquez deserves better.

Sweet find on the Elky. Sounds like a good deal if you can repair the floors on the cheap.

Since it has no floor boards you could do the same in a northern small town.

The Caminos have always been cool in my book.

Auto shop teacher always told us to leave the holes in the floor. Why? So you can ditch your beer when you get pulled over. Takes careful timing of course...
