After a 1.5 year wait to get finances in order I am finally picking up a new car for the wife.

Considerations were: New: Impreza (non wrx), Rabbit, Versa, Civic, insight (the new one) Used: Audi a4 Avant, volvo wagon, outback, forester, 3 series wagon.

Criteria were no dark colors, had to be 2006 or newer, provision for iPod or aux in, wagon/hatch, manual, somewhat fun to drive, 30+ MPG (with a 40 mile each way commute it adds up for us).

Finaly choice being picked up next Saturday? 2009 Honda Fit Sport, Storm Silver with Manual Transmission. Getting it for invoice price. Having my local tint and clearbra guy pick it p ahead of time to get the tint and clearbra done so that way we can pick it up and head home. This one is going to be brand new, fresh off the boat. We were also looking at the blue, but none to be coming in these days so silver works for us as well out here in the heat.

We are going to break it in by driving it to Farmington to co-drive that national event.

I have had Hondas in the past, and was really impressed with the redesign of the Fit (we look at the earlier ones, did not like quite as much). Here's to another one in the stable!

We picked up an '09 Fit Sport auto for my wife and our daily 100+mile round-trip commute about 6-weeks ago. We absolutely love the car & have been averaging 35.5mpg.

I only have one little gripe about the car - the A-pillar is so fat, it's sometimes hard to see cars on left turns/ corners. Other than that, it's pretty awesome. I'd still like a 6spd/awd/supercharged one tho! LOL

My sister had a 1.3L jdm Fit with the cvt. It was a pleasantly surprising driving experience, i can only imagine the newer 1.5 with a manual should be a damn decent car.

Everyone wants rollover protection but nobody wants the airbags installed in their line of sight.

Interesting about the A pillar, I have airbags in my Legacy in the a pillars as well and they are a bit thicker than some of my older cars.

If I keep the car long enough, well what about twin K series, one in the fron, one in the back. The DuFitto

I also wanted to add that in many ways the Fit Sport reminds me of the original A1 Rabbit GTI. The suspension design is similar, acceleration is similar - if not a bit better, handling is more on par with GTI's that thave had some mild suspension work.(I really like the way Honda compromised the ride on the Fit. It's tight, without being harsh.)

Unfortunately, the Fit doesn't have the Recarro's the GTI had....though I do have a pair of those above my garage, I wonder if I could find a way to swap mounts....
