    I need to add cruise control to my 5psd Ranger, I'm taking it on a 3000 mile round trip in December. I've read up on the Audiovox CCS100 (vacuum) but I've also seen electric systems. The vacuum is cheap ~ $100, electrics start at $200, an OEM setup for the Ranger is electric but requires the servo, cable, springs, switches, and a new steering wheel, all of which looks like even if i parted it together is going to run me $3-400. I'm tempted by the vacuum cruise due to simplicity and cost. I just need some experiences / input if at all possible.

    I used the audiovox one for around 15k miles. Took about 4 hours to install and about 3 or 4 hours to get it working correctly. Overall it worked fine and did it's job. It required a little tinkering now and then.

    I almost forgot. Don't get it wet. It can quit on you.

    quit as in stop working.. or quit as stuck at the speed you are traveling at?

    I once had an Escort that had a Ford-branded aftermarket cruise control (dealer-installed). You might look into one of those, which would be substantially cheaper and easier than retrofitting the factory cruise control.

    I rarely see an aftermarket cruise that works (including the Audiovox a PO installed in my old ACR Neon), but that one in our Escort always worked fine.

    It quit working completely for short time. I disconnected the power and let it dry for a few days and it was fine. OE is always better, but sometimes not so cheap. It will work, but it won't win any quality awards.
