My girlfriend managed to make a deer late for getting to the other side of the road last night and did a little damaged to her saturn. The deer claimed a headlight, turn, signal, and both air bags.

My question is, do I need to replace any of the associated air bag equipment/sensors when I replace the bag units? The car in question is a 2001 Saturn SL.

There are "mandatory" replacement items for any airbag deployment depending on the vehicle in question. While it may or may not actually need all of this, chances are the SRS light will still be on if you don't replace them. On your car:

    Deployed airbag modules

Seat belts in use during collision (they likely have pre-tensioners)

    SDM module (airbag brain box)

In addition, it wouldn't be terribly unlikely for it to need a steering wheel "clockspring" also. The sensor in that car is part of the SDM. You do know that all of this is enough to make it a total, right?

Mostly as Ddavidv says, although I'm going to bet the belts will be ok. Probably no pretensioners unless its a German Saturn. Most modules latch a code, so it'll probably need that.

Cheapest fix is to find the same car with a blown up engine, probably.
