I have auto ADD so bad it's killing me, and my wallet!!!

This year alone I've sold my Jensen Healey, 92 Miata, 62 Falcon Wagon(owned for 6 months), and an E30 ragtop(owned for 3 months). Some of those funds went into the purchase and mild build of an 02 Focus ZX3. None of these were big $ deals, and I'm not rich...just so undecided.

Now I find myself ready to dump the ZX3 and move on to something else, without really giving the car a chance to prove itself. This thinking is beyond rediculous, and I know it....I just can't stop myself.

Now I'm leaning RX7ish, and find myself lusting after everything GT86, if I could even afford one once used ones start becoming available...

Am I alone in this self imposed car hell?

I've found that the Z06 has significantly cut back on my auto ADD. It hasn't helped the motorcycle ADD as much.

I have the same problem with bikes. The problem is I keep forgetting to sell some before I move on to the next one.

If youre asking if youre alone when it comes to Auto ADD, then you must truly be a New Reader...We are all sufferers, as well as enablers, so your among like minded people...and its likely those same people will only make your problem worse lol

If your married it could be worse. You could be going through women at the same rate, trading in the current one for a "flasher" model.
By comparison, it makes this car buying darn cheap.

I don't have automotive ADD and my 240Z project is taking many years to even kick off. I stripped a 1972 240Z and stored the parts in my basement/attic for the past 5 years until I can find a little better Z.

I put a lot of other home projects first before I kick off and buy another Z. Buying a new water softener ($350), tires for the wife's Trailblazer ($600), and tickets to Tampa to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary ($280) is way more important to me than a $1,500 240Z sitting in my garage needing work among the other 3 cars I own.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one suffering from this :), although I already knew it!!

I like the searching, learning, and reading about my latest lust...whatever that may be at the time, but occasionally just want to find something that satisfies that car 'itch' for longer than a couple of months.

I should point out that I do keep my trusty 91 Miata in the garage, ready at all times...but....my eyes do wander.

Often the hunt is better than the catch. Keep looking just get more selective on the buys.

I just realized I've owned and sold

1968 Ford Falcon 1996 Jeep Cherokee 1987 Toyota Corolla

and bought 1989 Nissan Micra

hmmm.. my add seems to have died. Been driving the same 318ti now for 6 years.. and am on my second Classic 900 (third saab) and have owned my fiat for 10 years now

Hi, my name's "Bill" and I'm a car-a-holic...

My wife allows me two cars and since that rule came into effect I've sold my 1977 Scottsdale 3/4 ton, to buy a 1987 Toyota 4x4 that just sits in the states, then I bought and sold a Fiat Panda as soon as we moved to Hungary (kind of miss that one actually), Then I bought and sold a Lada 2105 (miss that one too), I then bought my wife a Volvo V40 that I would drive the wheels off of if it wasn't automatic, then I bought a 1978 Honda CB750, a Derbi GPR 50, AND a 1966 Impala (the wife was out of town for the Impala... I put diamond earrings in the glove box to smooth things over.

Now I want a rotary powered Miata, or 2nd gen RX-7, I want my old Lada back, a fiat polski would be fun in the snow, and I'd really like to turn that CB750 into a Cafe bike of sorts...

Thanks for making me feel "normal" guys. It's really appreciated.

I'm not such an ADD type, but I understand the lust. There's a guy in my local SCCA region that is in his late 30s and has owned something like 107 cars.

I've found that the best cure is to race cars. All automotive ADD disappears for me when racing. The rally tal[hoon] might not be my FIRST choice, but it is the choice that allows me to race a lot

Philly? If so, he's actually 41 or 42.

It would be interesting to see how well he could do if he could stick with and develop a car for more than one season... From what I gather, the WRX may be a record for him.

There's a guy in N.H. that's the same way. Can't hang on to anything for more than 6 months. Pretty sure he's up over 100 vehicles owned.

I counted a couple of weeks ago. I'm up to 36 owned in the past 10 years. I even made a nice Google doc spreadsheet for it so I can keep it updated now.

There is undisputable truth in that statement. That's why I'll never part with the 91 Miata. I honestly do feel the sensation of 'Jinba ittai' or 'horse and rider as one body' when I'm autocrossing.

But there's that other 99% of the time when there's the ADD itch begging to be scratched.

And as weird as it may sound - there is an underlying guilt of betrayal to the Miata during this constant 'other vehicle' search - but that's fodder for a whole new thread :)
