I just got home from Iraq to discover that someone decided to steal my Rabbit GTI. I'm assuming that it's been scrapped or something. My family decided to wait until I was home to tell me. I spent a lot of time replacing things like taillights, sunroof cranks, etc. At any rate, I guess I'll have to pour one out for the little guy.

That sucks, man. Really crappy thing to come home to.

What year was it? Anything younger than 15 years needs a vin/title to get crushed, you might be able to run the VIN through the DMV to see if it landed anywhere, even if a yard took posession on the mechanic clause.

It's an 83 GTI. It was sitting on private property. Someone trashed the entire area looking for things of value. Neighbors called my uncle saying that they saw it leaving on a flatbed. He didn't call the police because he was afraid a family member had ransacked the place. I think I would have rather them taken my RX8.

That suuuuuucks. You might still try running the VIN through the police and see if any hits come up, but at this point I wouldn't hold too much hope.

seeing as they took the GTI and not the RX leads me to think it was not scrapped. At least not right away. It was stolen for it's parts.

Seems crappy to say "welcome back" now... but

    Welcome home!

If you have pics of the GTI, I'd post them here......you never know:

    www.thesamba.com

www.vwvortex.com (post on the Mk1 Golf forums)

That does suck badly! Sorry that your homecoming was not as rewarding as it should have been.

    Thanks for your service.

No chance that you have seen a Pimp My Ride crew running around town?

Sorry for your loss, and again thank you for your service... Welcome home.

I'm usually not a meme-humper, but this seems an appropriate response here:

    Glad you got back safe.

Man that sucks, sorry to hear that. What color is it, and does it have any thing that makes it stand out? I'm looking for a GTI lately and have been searching craigs, pretty close to as well, maybe I have seen it or will see it.

Thanks for your service as well, major respect for you guys!

Welcome home safe, and can you give us the VIN?

Hell, I'd pop a stolen car post up over on vwvortex in a heartbeat.
