The BMW looks promising, I'm sure it would be gone by the time we're ready to pull the trigger though. I also saw some 944's and 924's in the general price range.
My only concerns with buying a car that is not running is that we would have to trust the seller as to what ever they say about the problem. Hate to buy a car, get it running and then find out it has a nasty rod knock or bad trans, clutch, etc.... But again whatever the guys want to do is fine with me.
I would think a running car would be best. The counter to that is that I have had lots of luck with "Ran when parked" rotary cars. I could figure out whether that one would run before pulling the trigger.
How about this BMW?
I may have a date conflict with the CMP Lemons event in September, which would make this a cheap, running car without a home.
I think we can make it top 20 in 24 hours.
If that's the case, screw the out of towners!

Nice.
All in good fun. And given the project car sitting in my garage already, the notion of me spending a great of time on a car for the $2009 Challenge would be received...um...poorly at home.
72 hours is not "time" it is a weekend drinking.

Hold on, Bubba!
Considering that car is still sitting on MY trailer in MY yard and the title's in MY hands, you better watch your mouth!
A little respect, please, for the "out of towners"!!
It may have to remain in my possession until you have achieved an an appropriate level of genuflection.
Forillydoe.

Oh crap... I'll shut up now.
you fogot one thing to add to the budget....
$100 per person for the extra beer.....cuase you someone is going to drink more then thier share of the beer.....and you have a theme built into the car for paint..... glue all the empty beer cans to the car and there is your theme. and with whats left over you use to bribe the judges on friday...
i should say any beer not drunk to the judges...empty beer cars would not look good from bribes...then again it could get you wrost attapt award...

Darn...that was quick!
BTW, the Challenge car in question showed up today. Started right up (after a jump) and drove right off the trailer. Woot!
Starting budget? $250, including the transport provided by SVreX.
This should be fun! It will be a relief to actually build a car last minute on purpose.
Man, I want in on this so bad but I have a car in the garage that's supposed to go to the challenge and I don't think I can come up with the extra couple vacation days I would need to come down early.
Yep, this is actually going to happen. I had my vacation approved last week. Many thanks to all those who have done everything so far.

Incorrect.
Starting budget is $150, plus the gas I spent to drive less than 20 miles out of my way, assuming you wackos can talk me into being a team member (very possible).
Remember, all the trips I made related to this were coupled with other necessary trips I was making.
Which also brings up something for Rusty. I travel through Cumming about once a month, usually with an empty trailer headed south. Transport for a bunny to G'ville should be easy.
