So looking around my garage I was trying to come up with the cheapest way to autocross this year.

salvage R package miata not rebuilt yet

Clean title miata bought as a parts car for R package car.

Bummer is neither car came with stock wheels.

The R has 15x6.5 rota circuit 8s . Any chance I could use those without causing a fuss?

Was thinking I could borrow shocks and wheels/tires off R for a season and have some cheap fun.

    Let me know. Thanks Dan

Depends on the group you race with. My club wouldn't look twice but we're known for being a more fun-loving laid back group.

Assuming that the wheels are a non-stock size, it just depends on how tight the sphincters are on the powers-that-be.

The general rule of thumb in my head is that a new driver with 1 or 2 minor performance improvements (eg wheels especially) can escape the wrath of being put into classing oblivion for his first 4 or 5 events.

See if anybody local will trade their stock wheels for your rota's?

As mentioned, it would depend on how picky the other ES drivers are. Plus, tires would also matter. If you run the 15's with R-comps, there would be a better chance of grumbling than if you're just running good street tires.

Just run in STS. 15's are legal and you'll do better there on a street tired car anyway.

Dunno if you were planning on R-comps (doesn't sound like the "cheapest" way), but I'll third the STS suggestion.

I've got some toyos on the 15s , nothing special. I've got some 16" stock wheels I might try to trade for 14" but then I'd have to buy new tires. I'll check out STS rules.

    Thanks

Agreed. Your car isnt an ES car until you put the right wheels on it, just run is STS and dont worry about annoying everyone.

If it is an R-package you cannot run STS, IRRC, because of the torsen (I could be wrong); STR is where you would go. No on the E-stock with the 15 inch wheels unless it is an M edition.

depends on your group... here we had an shiny happy person that protested a gal and her '95 Civic (H Stock) 'cause she was running 15's... or maybe 'cause she was out running him...... he also protested a kid and his rusted out Integra (missing parts due to rust) also outrunning him....

That is a big thing. With our club, if you told your direct competitors that you were in violation of one of the rules they usually don't care.
