I'm asking this for a friend. This is what he sent me:

My neighbor just inherited a '95 Nissan 300ZX (no, not a turbo car). It was his grandfather's, and a California car, so he hopes to fix it up (repaint, etc) and enjoy it -- probably more for sentimental reasons.

But before he puts money into it, he hoped to pay a good Nissan mechanic to really go through the car -- to evaluate its mechanical condition, and inform him of any potential problems.

They're here in Chicago, but would likely drive it anywhere in the metro area to have the "right" guy go through it.

I think these Z cars have a pretty decent following, with both tuners and the club racer crowd. Anyone have any suggestions for a specialist mechanic who really knows these cars (and what to look out for) -- that he should take it to?

Thanks in advance for any help.

my brother really knows old nissans very well, buys OEM parts wholesale, has built many high-HP nissans, has a bunch of them, and loves them. hes a great mechanical "investigator" too.

if you want to get ahold of him, 708 269 5001 (jeremy)

he has a nice shop with lift, and is about the cheapest guy around too. located right by indiana border.

there used to be a Z specialist in Des Plaines on Oakton Avenue just east of I294. I don't know if he is still around.

I trust any decent Nissan dealership has a mechanic that can run through the car for one hours labor?

Ryan Weddle & JP Johnson co-drive a wild 240SX Street Mod autocross car at SCCA events. JP has also built a pretty healthy Sentra turbo. I would COME OUT TO THE NEXT SCCA EVENT(June 20) & ask their advice! Yours truly may or may not be there with the WFS & semi-famous co-driver...

mrexotica: Winning would be easier if you and your Hawaiian shirt weren't there, it just wouldn't be as fun.

Duh! I feel like an ass, Exotica. I haven't seen you on the Czar board lately. I forgot you "dabble" in the Dark Side. I posted this to help out Lucky. WFS? World's Fastest Scion?
