My '86 Crown Vic has been sitting for a few years and all it needs is a trans. I dont have the money for a rebuild and I can't find a descent trans. Or is there someone who will rebuild an AOD for like $500 not the $1500 I have been quoted.

Its aggravating because this thing has 60k on it and the trans took a dump. I want to actually sell my Cherokee and start driving my Crown Vic again.

Wadsworth pick n pull - should be under $200. I think they've got a 30 day return policy.

rebuild it yourself? they aren't hard to do. I'm guessing it only lost OD. That was typical for those.

It used to be a big deal to upgrade the bushing on the throttle body for the throttle valve cable. A brass one usually saves the transmission from dying once you have a fresh one back in there.

One from a mustang or truck should work, but lincoln ones have a longer tail shaft. If the shift pattern is wrong (floor shift) you should be able to swap the valvebody.

www.grandmarq.net was a good resource for those and probably still is.

Do it yourself, or.. you might be able to get a shadetree type to do a bench job on it for $500 if you r&r it yourself.

So either way, want cheap, do it yourself, to varying degrees.

If you do try it yourself, I'll be happy to lend my hands to the job. I have no experience but I am willing to help!

I have looked around the net and it looks like an easy auto trans to rebuild. I'm gonna look up prices on rebuild kit. I'd like to start this project when the weather gets warmer.

    In reply to Lugnut:

If your interested, that's cool, a second set of hands is always a good thing. Plus, I still have to get the trans out of the car.
