He said a 20' container from southern England to Detroit would run about $2100, or about $420 per kit. This does not include the other fees.
That actually sounds almost cheap to me - I paid about $5000 for a 20" container from southern England to NV. OTOH it doesn't have to go through Panama and all that.
frankenstangsghost wrote: He said the duties and taxes aren't too bad on something like this since it's not technically a car. He did warn me that I cannot unload the container at the port unless I use union labor,,, That said, I have a place to unload and store that isn't too far away and I have a CDL. Worst case scenario, hiring a truck shouldn't be too much more than a couple hundred $$$. Divide that by 5. I'll email Mr. Janes this afternoon when I get to work.
Just keep in mind you'll need access to a loading dock if you get the container trailered to your place - the trucks don't tend to have the ability to set down the container.
Guess how I found that out

This is what I'd like to see. Much lighter (even more than the cut up Herald), and better potential for own suspension.
Also, how the hell does the OP have 3 Heralds laying around in the middle of the rust belt? As far as I know, they were even unloved in the UK, let alone here.

Well you can't unload the container at the port period the container is going to need to be put on a container trailer and then sent to a truck well to be unloaded. I can get you into the ports and can arrange a truck. the big thing is the logistics of shipping them over. you either need to do a full 40 foot load of bodies with a presale. or have the supplier find room in some other container being shipped to Detroit and then have your load picked up a Michigan Cross dock etc.
I have a price for the kits in bulk, just waiting for the shipping quote. We need buy 5+. 2 are spoken for at this time. The guy was going to crate 'em all but I figured just securing the kits inside the container. At 5'x5'x10', the container will fill up fast. We're shooting for a 20'. Is a 40' cheaper?

Crate them. Seriously. My bikes were well secured in the 20' container I had and they still managed to suffer from some damage I found a few months afterwards. Oh, and a 20' container should be noticeably cheaper than a 40' one.

- another 1. Seems like an easy body for a locost.
Just find a version of the locost chassis that fits. Then the world is your oyster.
How high is the bonnet? Can a Miata Locost fit under that body?

I'm very interested in this body. I've been emailing the guys at Sammio for shipping costs to Canada. But I have no problem driving down to the Detroit area to pick it up. I want a LHD body with a few extras. (to build onto a Miata) JR
