A friend picked one up. Not exactly sure what we want to do with it just yet. I hope V8... 
So what say the GRM crowd? I feel like at this age the first thing that needs sorted no matter what is suspension and ALL bushings...
Anyone here have any experience with them?
Needs a 3.0 from a 300e and a 5 speed :). A V8 would be a major hack job in one of those.

Not much. A friend who buys and sells a lot of cars picked one up to use as an autocross toy. He sold it after one event. In stock form, he was not very pleased with the performance.

My sis had a standard 190e... I hated the seats. That is all I can add. You sat ontop of them and never settled in
Much truth so far. Bad seats, dog slow, worst throttle linkage in the history of cars.
You guys with the "bad seats" must have been in early versions. All Mercedes that I've sat in, including 190's that were post-1992ish, had wonderful seats.

Well if its dog slow we'll swap in a V8. The stock seats will be gone, along with the rest of the interior...
We'll make the best of it 
My wife has a 190E 2.6, automatic.
It is a damned fine car. It has over 200k miles and runs great. It has way more pickup than I thought it would.
