Yes I am thinking about it. Is there a "How to" some place. I actually would be interested in what Audi motor I should be looking for. They seem to be plentiful in the local P&P. Everything from 100's to A8's. One has a twin turbo 4.2 in it. That is a HUGE motor. I did get the intercoolers of it for basically scrap value but I digress.

Anyway just wanted to lean more about this. Final goal is about 225-250hp. Equal amounts of Torque would be even better but I would consider that a bonus.

I need to dig up the thread I started a while back about motors in a 944 other than a V8 and re reed it you all had some fantastically cool ideas!!!

Well, you don't want a 5 cylinder. They are heavy ass things. Seems like a lot of work when a LS motor will go in there and get you where you need to be without the cost of German car parts.

I'd go with the 4.2. :)

Just not going to do an LS (or any V8 for that matter) Cost of German parts is not any worse than most other parts as long as you know where to shop (and shop around)

I like an I4 or and I5. Heck if an I6 would fit I would consider it but I think that is not really an option. I have read up on the I5 swaps and it did not hurt the weight of the car to any noticeable degree. If my memory serves me I think the swap I was reading about with an I5 ended up with more weight in the back.

LS/Miata/P71 are only "the answer" for those lacking imagination. .. . . .. . And common cense.

What about a flat 6 from a 911?

I had never though of A diesel in a 944 but the thought makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I like it.

LS = sounds like a truck

5 cylinder = best sounding (piston) engine ever made

You should be able to find the pinnacle of 5-cylinder engines (the AAN engine from the S4/S6) for less than an LS engine. LSs seem to go for $2000ish nowadays while you can generally find AANs in the $1000-1500 range now. A $500-ish set of rods and the engine's power limitation is the size of your turbo if ~450hp with the stock rods isn't enough.

And if you're thinking of cheaping out and putting an IRON block V8 in what is supposed to be a good handling car... shame on you!

There's some info on the 924board.org under the engine swaps area. There is a 170hp 20-valve NA 924 running around Europe and he's having a ball with it. There's also at least one 4.2 in a 944 that I saw on a LeMons forum.

Basically you use a 924 turbo bellhousing. A 2.7tt bellhousing spacer, donor engine flywheel/PP and a Chrysler disc of the appropriate diameter.

The mounts on the cross member and the oil pan need modification. The stock manifolds should work with custom downpipes.

I think the hood needs a couple of inches of clearance at the front.

There's an Audi I6 swap in progress as well :)

I agree that the I5 make a glorious sound. It was the best part of my Volvo 850

Okay, I'm ignorant. I didn't even know Audi made an inline 6. What models had it?

Yeah, I thought the same thing...many inline fives and V6's but not a straight six to my knowledge.

Ford Duratec V6 4 valve 3.0L plentiful and cheap.

good for 200 hp stock NA

Add boost for or spray for more fun.

Good for 400+hp

Compact light package, the only obstacle is a bellhousing.

Designed by Porsche so it's not a total bastard....

Was that engine ever sold in the US?

Edit: Nevermind. I looked it up on Wikipedia.

Volvo 240 Diesel.

Also, there are some natural gas fired Audi I6s. Used as generators. Mounted in cabinets. Vertically.

You don't want an I-6 Volvo Diesel. trust me; I've had 2. A TDI will make more power, more efficiently.
