    The exterior adjustment on the HF units is a bit dangerous. I had a class mate in my welding class accidentally have his turn all the way down so he got flashed pretty good. Looking at the new ones, I think the lowest setting is darker than it used to be.

    I have a name brand (Jackson I think?) and love it. Don't have any experience with the Harbor Freight one other than the above. It beats a manual helmet anyway!

    My old man had been welding for years with the shake your head and pray helmets. My brother and I got a reasonably priced auto-darkening helmet for him one year for Christmas. He later said it was one of the nicest gifts he ever got, and he's a man who doesn't sling praise very often.
