I received a random offer from this magazine for 12 issues for $20, but I have never heard of the magazine. I need to re up to GRM soon, but am looking for another car mag as well. Has anyone heard of this magazine, read issues or subscribes to it?

How is the magazine? Does it have a less ads then magazine content? How is the content? Are the cars only older models? Are the techniques shown model specific or will they work on other cars?

I have one old issue. Seems pretty good.
I also have a how-to book about restoring a '70 Charger by Larry Lyles that was compiled from Auto Restorer articles and is pretty good.

It's a well written magazine with more material than adds.
Most of the articles relate to very detailed restorations and oddball cars. It gives specific info about specific models and not a lot of general body,painting, welding tips or techniques.
If you want to read a 3 page article about restoring a power brake vacuum unit for a 1958 DeSoto, you'll enjoy the magazine.
I suscribed for a year but it just wasn't for me.
The information was good. Reading it is an enjoyable experience - but a brief one. Unless things have changed drastically the cover to cover time is pretty short. And if you aren't interested in an article it gets a lot shorter. If you have the $20, give a shot. I would definitely think it is worth at least reading. I don't think you'll consider it a waste of $20. You just might not think it worth renewing.
I emailed them, asking that they send me a back issue so I can look at the magazine and see if I want to subscribe, because I personally have never seen it at Barnes and Noble or Borders.

It's a very grass roots magazine. No glossy paper, no slick ads. Kinda reminds me of this old magazine I used to get called Auto-x or such.
If you're interested in general old car restoration with interesting articles on quirky cars of long ago, it's a fun magazine. Lots of member written articles on clever things like painting a tail light socket with chrome paint, etc.
If you're looking for long detailed articles on how to paint a car, you'll be disappointed. That's what CarCraft is for.

I subscribed to it for many years. It went from being a newsletter type to slick magazine and back again (I think, I haven't seen one for a while). The last time I saw one they had chucked all the ads, so it is meatier than it looks.

It is the only magazine I've ever seen that has done comparison testing on paint strippers, hand cleaners, and rust preventing paint. Some really good articles on painting, welding, restoration techniques etc., etc. The cars featured are largely domestic manufacture. If you are a British or German car freak you won't find as much to interest you.
I stopped subscribing when I pared down my magazine load. I just didn't have time to read all that I was getting. Since I am not an active car restorer it wasn't all that useful to me, anyway.

Just to defend the host of the forum, GRM did an article comparing hand cleaners a while back. I still haven't tried coffee grounds and dish soap; I keep meaning too, just haven't timed my coffee disposal properly. I don't know about comparing anti-rust paint and paint strippers; I think the backlash from the junkyard babes article was enough to keep them from doing any future articles on strippers.
