I've been thinking probably too much recently about the feasibility of a car having mechanically unconnected wheels like this work in a steering system. What happens when a pothole or something pulls one wheel off course and the other is completely unaffected? What kind of feedback algorithm should be used to send some feedback for such an event to the drive-by-wire steering wheel? I imagine it would feel pretty awful. But on the positive side, it could enable clever 4WS schemes and zero-radius turning.
