Hello, I was wondering if I could get pointed in the direction of some Autocross events less than 2 hours away from SF. I joined the 510 Motoring club in Monterey and only went to one event. It's just a little too far away to hit every time. Also any Hill-climb events if possible. I know this may sound crazy to some but I'm just trying to figure this all out and need help. Thanks! Canaan

There's always track days at Sonoma and if you head over to the SCCA website you'll find a link to your local region's website.

    Like this:

    http://sfr-solo.org/solo2/cgi-bin/schedaction.cgi?autox&where=all&Next_thr...

    or some results from google:

A variety of groups regularly hold events at Golden Gate Park and/or Marina Airport (just north of Monterey).

ESCA, the PCA, and the local(?) Tiger club do autocrosses up here in Santa Rosa. They're a bunch of sissies about running in the rain, though so they take November-March off, and the next event isn't 'til April (I think the 14th).

For hillclimbs, the nearest one I know is the Hoopa Hillclimb up in Humboldt County, outside of Willow Creek. You can find videos of runs on youtube.

You live in an autocrosser heaven. Here is the Autocross/Solo section of the San Francisco Region SCCA website. http://www.sfrscca.org/content/view/4555/32/ Events for all the SCCA and well as most of the clubs in the area are listed in the link labeled, "Solo Events Calendar."

There is also lot of event information available here: http://www.baautox.com/forum/index.php

The 510 club is one of my favorite clubs to take newbies out to, its a good combo of been cheap and laid back yet it still has a large group of people that come out and run.

Come check out an SCCA event though, the next event is down in marina, but the december 6th one will be in oakland.

What type of car do you drive? There are several marque clubs (BMW, Porcshe, etc) that can be fun, though most of them requre you to own the particular brand of car it represents. The GGLC (golden gate lotus club) is a notable exception to this, I have not yet run with them but I have heard nothing but good things about them.

    There is also these guys:

    http://www.americanauto-x.com/

Though they seem less tolerant of total noobs, make sure you have at least read the info on the website before you show up to one of their events.

If you do end up comming out to a SCCA event come by and say hi, I will be hanging around a blue AW11 MR2 running in STS

Marina Airport in two weeks, check out

    www.sfrscca.org/solo2 for information and maps.

Just finished up at Atwater last weekend, missed a great event!

Hillclimbs, not around here, although there should be.

Good luck and get out and run!!!

I drive a 1991 Miata MX-5 and I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. I'm a total noob. Been working on the cars or getting them worked on when the job is out of my skill-set. I will try to do 2010 with 510 and get my act together. I will check out the oakland event on Dec 6.

Hell no. I have no idea what I'm doing. i guess what I'll do is drive up volunteer my time and see what I need to have ready for the next event. I have a 1991 Miata and a 1995 Eclipse. I want to Auto-x both. Mainly the miata though.

Will that be at Altamont Raceway again? I used to go there for the Drift sessions. But that got canned.

Well if you are running the miata you will be in Estock, STS, CSP, or SM2 depending on the nature of any modifications you have performed.

You can read up on the rules here: http://www.scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=61

With any luck you will end up in STS. Both TypeQ and myself race in that class. TypeQ frequently runs the noob course walk at the begining of the day.

Probably, it depends on what you mean by a "little" nobody likes following a car with a bag of kitty litter...

It's at Thunder Hill, just south of Redding. It's a long way to drive to spectate for a day, and it's in the middle of nowhere... but it's supposed to be a blast for competitors.

This is a pretty rough event for a car huh? The cars in this race aren't really expected to make it home are they?
