We visited our local salvage yard and grabbed (ok, unbolted, dragged and paid for) a rear axle from a 1982 Saab 900 Turbo. The rear shock mounts are different on the 900 (better, less exposed, stronger) and the axle itself is about 1/8-inch thicker.
