So my Capri XR2 has been kinda fussy lately. On occation it just wont start. Cranks normally just wont start... I'm at a loss of what to do right now... I noticed that the problem was intermittent and started around 7-10 days ago and have diagnosed it as a no spark condition. Here's the rub... I initially thought the car was suffering from the infamous ignition module so to confirm it I swapped distributors with my step dads XR2.... to no avail.

There is power at the ignitor (12.5v) and the problem is intermittent. I pulled the loom looking for a break as when you wiggled it around it would start no problem... After taking the harness loose, removing the loom, and tracing the wires I didn't see any pinched or proken wires. I did however find a green wire that has an exterior wire layer that is similar to coax one end meets up with a black and yellow wire and the other has nothing on it just taped up.

Also I noticed that my CEL is recently inop. Tomorrow I'm gonna check if the bulb is blown or possible related to my cars issue. Any ideas?

I had an intermittent no start problem with my probe that involved a faulty crankshaft position sensor. Check the wires and orientation of the cam & crank sensors.

Not that I know the Capri - but a shielded wire (such as your coax wire) is usually a sensitive signal such as the O2 sensor or possibly the AFM. Since the car ran before, I'm guessing the former.

I'll take a pic of the section of the harness in question. as the distributor was replaced and the issue still exists. Anyone have an engine harness on the cheap?

its either the ECU, Ignitor, of the harness. I'm gonna work on it all day the next 3 days as i have them off work... so I hope it get it lined out. I'm gonna call the dealership and get the wiring diagram and make sure i have power at the correct places and filter through what it could be... Wish me luck!

FIXED: It was a corroded plug by the over flow bottle.
