OK some of you know i had a flood down at my shop. well it got into around 20 cars and all my engines.

the engine in question is a VERY nice 1970 911T 2.2

ok so i have drained the water. filled it with kerosene, drained it. filled it with motor oil. i have been turning it over by hand every day. i have taken it down to a long block, and cleaned it.

i plan on putting it back together this weekend. how can i start it with out a spare transmission and starter? i have no pressure plate or clutch just a flywheel with no ring gear.

can i turn it over using the crank pulley bolt? impact gun? i know i could hook the carbs and ignition up easy. how can i get it to fire up on my workbench?

This site is a treasure trove of help and information. But in this case, I think you would be well advised to cross-post the same question over at Pelican. You may even find a semi-local shop to help you out.

What is the deal on the Spirit R/T? and what part of town are you in?

Fasten the engine to something very solid, then weld/bolt a steel rim to the flywheel, wrap a tow strap around the rim and use another vehicle to pull start the engine.

Impact wrench will not work but a very large electric drill could possibly do the job.

If you do the pull start method you must have someone video the process.

Don't blame you. Man, that's a helluva loss. If I were closer, I'd even buy a round.

Wow, that's terrible! I feel your pain

    Re: the Porsche lump --

Do you know any VW air cooled guys near you? If so, you could bolt your engine to any old Volksy trany. A 12v unit would be better, but even a 6v would work after a little clearancing by baring over the engine as you bolt it in. (the ring gear will easily machine off the few thousandths needed without damage) And yes -- I've done this several times.

Fit a 12v starter, strap it down on some old tires, battery - fuel -- and fire it up!

ansonivan FTMFW!! well i feel alot better about the siduation now. i got the 911 engine to turn over maybe 600-800rpm with a honkin big dewalt drill. I have good confirmed oil pressure everywhere i can check, so i assume the mains are gettin it too.

im gonna tear down the zeniths tonight and go thru them...

next i gotta get the hemi worked out, but it has a starter attached, so it should be no problem the rest are gonna have to hang in kerosene suspended animation untill i can get to them.
