    I bought the RX-7 I posted here: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/what-do-yall-think-about-this-turbo-swa...

I've already begun tearing into it to remove the audio equipment and rat's nest of amplifier wiring. I found the battery was relocated to the storage bin behind the passenger seat, however, it is not tied down. I found this tie-down on Amazon and was wondering if it would be acceptable for SCCA Solo and track-day organizations (i.e. COM Sports Car Club). It says it is NHRA-compliant:

Also, in the other thread, Brett_Murphy mentioned something about battery gases escaping through a rubber tube. Would this be necessary with a sealed battery like an Optima or Odyssey? What would be a good way to route the tube if it is needed? I was thinking of keeping the tie-down in the storage bin where it is right now.

you dont need a vent with an optima or other sealed battery.

that looks like a correct hold down. the ones that are not legal are the J bolt ones. they want a nut and washer on each side of the stud. some guys get around it by welding up the J of the hook.

Some of the sanctioning bodies used to require a battery in the passenger compartment be vented regardless of type. Don't know if the increased prevalence of the Optima has changed that.

A hole in the floor with a grommet to hold the tube should be fine. There may be an existing grommet you can punch a hole in that will work.
