I had a G35 6MT. LOVED it. Great cruiser, but not a lightweight toy like the Miata. Great DD though. The autos aren't as bad as some, but would really kill the character of the car IMO.

I had an auto coupe - it was a great long distance commuter and more than held it's own on the track. Anyone that says an old Miata is a better daily driver than a G35 lives in a warm climate and has a 10 mile back road commute. Or has just led a very sheltered life.

Honestly the last decent car to come from Infiniti from a sports perspective was a P10. Toss in a healthy dose of slushbox and its a deal killer. Im with the others, buy the G and flip it.

    3) $5k is an utter travesty, even for a slushboxed blob of a car. KBB says $11k private party in midtown Memphis, which is not an area known for opulence. If you have skin in this game (and the breakup was amicable) tell her not to trade.

Did you put the miles in? KBB here says $7950, private party, good shape.

The last 3 that went through Manheim auctions with between 110,000 and 120,000 miles (120,000 was the highest) did $4,000. 3 of them were AWD. One with 160K can't be worth too much more than $5,000

    1) I think the "hairdresser" aspect of the Miata is completely nullified by the hardtop and roll bar. (I have yet to meet a gay man who drives a Miata, and I run into a good cross-section of both gay man and Miata drivers. Where did that trope come from?)

I blame Corky. (Romano, not Bell.)

Stay away from Lever A, go ahead and Lever-B.

I don't see any of this being worth the hassle. Keep your Miata, keep your truck, enjoy the sporting life.

I can't imagine every looking back at this situation and going "Damn, I really wish I had sold my Miata and flipped that automatic G-coupe!", but I certainly CAN imagine looking back and saying "Why oh why did I hawk my Miata?!?".

    Datsun1500:

Damn. Depreciation on those is astonishing! I went with the KBB "suggestion" for a car in poor condition, figuring the miles made it damaged goods.

I also had a gut reaction of "unpossible!" at 5K being fair value for a modern Infiniti sport coupe, given that KBB private party on the brave little toaster (my "give it gas and oil changes" 2003 Corolla) is around $5.5K. So, you can imagine my surprise at a G35 of the same vintage going for the same money . . .

Maybe she should figure out why weirdos keep looking at her. If this isn't the first time she's selling a car because of it, maybe its not the car. Maybe it's because she looks like a model from a 70's car ad.

I would agree that it would seem more of a hassel selling both your vehicles to get the G. I love them as well, but the auto would be my biggest turn off. Unless it had the same trans as the GTR.

On another note, I think it wouldn't have the same impact singing Ah-Ha's "Take On Me" at the top of your lungs in a flower shirt. With your wingman Terrier in shotgun. Just not the same in a G.

I've been offline for a few days, I'm completely re-wiring my house, but I'm too lazy to bring the router into a room that still has power. I have decided to flip the car when the time comes and keep the Miata. I got to spend some time in the G35 the other day and while I like the car It just doesn't fit my needs. If I want a 4 passenger GT car I will drive my 78 Celica....too bad it isn't packing 290 hp though.
The Comanche is still for sale though. I have too many cars hanging out at my house currently. If anyone is interested, contact me offline, it is over the $2010 limit but only by $190. Thanks for the input!

Tough to flip it for $9-10K when retail is $7900 at best.

I have a G35 Sedan and it replaced a '99 Miata as a daily driver. There is absolutely no comparison here, the Infiniti is far better as a daily. It's no track day-autocrosser, but it's not meant to be. I have another car to fill that role.

Taken for what it is, it is a very nice car. And it will get wheel spin at 60 in the rain! Not that I would do that of course. When I bought it about 6 months ago, I was really looking for a 330Ci or M3. After driving several, and then the G, it was a pretty easy choice. Most of those in my price range ($10 to $20k) had a lot of small issues where the G had none. And it was faster than the non M's for substantially less money.

I do miss driving the Miata sometimes, but not enough to reverse my decision. It's nice having it there when I need it though!

It looks like in the last week, there have been several G35 coupes sell on Ebay for $12-19K. Very clean, low mileage examples though.
