A friend just bought what he calls a project car, a 97 BMW 328iC. It has convertible top issues, as in won't go up/down without help and asked me to help dig up some info for it. I thought of asking here first. Looking for wiring schematics and/or manuals online if possible. Ideas on what could be wrong wouldn't hurt either.
He thinks it's probably electrical but will check the motors this weekend.
I don't know that much about convertible top motors, the only droptops I have ever owned is my Miata and early MG Midget that has the assemble on the car with side curtains type top.
Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

Here's the ETM for E36 Convertibles. I'm not sure how useful it will be though.
Amazing what google can turn up these days!

Hmmm, outside of miatas I've always hated convertibles for just this reason!
BMW does make a hard top and you can find them pretty cheap used...Well when I say cheap, I mean in comparison to a miata hard top
