( I couldn't get the clip to work) but might it be a clogged fuel tank breather, causing a vacuum to be drawn on the tank?

    Or a evap canister???

You, sir, have a bad oil separator. My E46 328i made the same noise when I sold it. Part itself isn't too bad price wise but it's a monumental pain in the tail to get to the part to replace it. E46 based instructions and pictures should help you out.

If you live in a cold climate don't wait on this. If it goes really bad it can lead to oil-hydrolocking the motor, bending rods and such.

Thanks Guys. above is new video with the noise.

Wow -what a write up. The sound was best heard at the intake manifold connector as shown in picture 7. Must be it.

    Thanks again.

That DIY article is excellent but a some of the steps are not necessary, namely removing the icv and disa. I've never had to do that although it would buy you more access to some tough bolts.

Upon reassembly a little silicone paste on the new hose o-rings will make them much easier to install, the little snaky pipe which wiggles around the intake is particularly tricky to install unless lubed.
