Has anyone done a "Boom Tube" system?

    Defined: http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6460248/claims.html

    An install: http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/0911phr_1975_chevy_laguna/photo_23.html

    Vendor: http://drgas.mybisi.com/product/176867/Street-Rod-Boom-Tube-Mufflers_1082348.html

This would help with ground clearance where the exhaust exit just before the right rear wheel. Also looks like it might add some performance and look really cool? Too much Bling or Excessive Rice....

its a neat idea for when I slam my next car.

I like that a lot. You could probably use that to make a very short, very lightweight exhaust. On a turbo car, it might not even be very loud.

The turbo Miata would be perfect...

I like it. I saw a similar system on a A sedan Camaro. He built flat collectors for the headers, pipes in a row- oooo- rather than square,88. Then brought it down to 2 side by side pipes, also flattened a bit. He had great ground clearance and looked trick.

It's hard to tell from the pics on the sites, but is a boom tube just a flat exhaust pipe? Same cubic capacity but a different shape?

Other than clearance are there any other supposed benefits?

I've always wondered why that's not more prevalent.

I saw those on a foxbody today!

A friend had one for his 240sx, but went a more creative route. His was used, surplus circle track stuff, for real cheap.

Where did your friend come across it?

He hangs out with the local circle track crowd, so probably picked it up from one of those guys. IIRC it was about $60.

He also switched to an aluminum circle track radiator with the AN inlet/outlet, got it for about the same price. The AN fittings and hose still made it cost as much as a Koyo though, haha.

The car on the popular hot rodding page is essentially the car i want to build!

Those are nice looking but it seems like they would be awfully easy to crimp off if you bottomed out at the wrong spot.

Lots of us used to make our own. Bottom out the car a few times, walla! Instant flattened exhaust pipes.

The Nascar guys have been doing it for years. Not only for ground clearance, a properly sized/configured set up can increase power a bit.
