Well I was curious about any upgrades I can make to me open loop bosch k-jet fuel injection. It works but is very sensitive as it is vacuum controlled. I wanted to do Megasuirt, but don't think it would be approved for smog here, though I could meet with the smog referee and have a talk. I don't want to go afoul of smog b/c I spent 2 years getting this car to pass. The problem looks like any aftermarket products need to be approved by CARB and if you do any upgrades you need to have the referee check and make sure you don't pollute more. It sucks here bad!

I think MS would almost certainly be cleaner than K-jet.

Come on people put the megasquirt computer in the OE computer boxes! The referees will not know what hits them!

I don't think that would be the problem. It might be kinda hard to explain electronic fuel injectors and the lack of fuel distributor, and that whole braided steel octopus that goes along with it.

Individual fuel lines and the wiring for the injectors wrapped in a stainless cover back to a 4 way fuel and electronic divider that looks like the octopus but actually has connections for the fuel and injector harnesses.

My car has no brains(ecu) it is purely vacuum/ mechanical. I was just curious to find out if there is any easy upgrades, I looked at MS and was really stoked about the program, but don't think they would allow it in california. The next best thing I've seen is adding an O2 sensor and a brain, but again you gotta go through CARB and they suck! They failed me for not having the correct gas cap. They ended the 30year smog exemption so that sucks. I almost wish I had an older benz with the d-jet and smog exemption. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, anything after 1975 is going to be a pain in Kalifornia. I would simply keep it well tuned and drive it like it is.

The other option is to do a CARB approved motor swap to a later platform. A cheap LT1 could be pretty cool in a nice 280SLC.

This is why I avoid cars from 1976 and newer since I moved to California. The exception is cars that were manufactured from 2000 or later. They are likely to have enough support to have parts availability. 1976 to 1999 just aren't worth it to me especially if I'm relying on the car for work related transportation. Of course, I have 11 cars and 2 motorcycles so I've usually got SOMETHING running at any given moment!

Thanks ww I think the best thing for me to do then is just to go through the vacuum lines and make sure everything is up to par. I always have big dreams and small budgets. The issue with my car is that it need to be tuned every few thousand miles. The euro m110 engine is really good but has it's issues. I think I'll just leave it alone and drive it until the engine gives up the ghost(not soon).

FYI I'm sure you could put an LS1 in there b/c some guy fit an M120 V12 MB engine in there. The best swap in my view is the I6 from a 300sl 24V puts out an impressive 210HP
