    Actually, my point was that it needed a replacement engine at 50k.

    My bet - Intermediate shaft failure.

    It's a semi-rare, but known problem on 996 and Boxsters, and results in a catastrophic engine failure. I ran into a guy at a track day with a 996 under warranty that suffered one. The dealership ran the datalog on his ECU, told him he had "been racing" and voided the warranty coverage. He had to pay out of pocket for a whole new motor. Ouch.

    I am still curious about the "3.8" litre engine.. is that a typo or does he have something larger than stock in it?

    He should've known better than than to "race" his porsche! Everyone knows they aren't made for that!
