A few months back when there was a lot of 911 chat going on around here, there was quite a bit of discussion about brown Porsches and brown cars in general.

I found this thread over on Pelican and thought I'd share:

I do too, but some more than others.

So wrong... but so right. Eventually, I will have to own a Porsche. And it may well be brown.

I think it's a great color for an older 911/928.

Brown it's the new tangerine

I prefer Dianmond Blue Matallic. I swear there is not blue in it, maybe purple and grey, but defffanitly no blue.

While I agree that brown is a great color for classic 911s, I just don't understand why it works so well.

But who am I to question these things

I read an article in the paper about the color brown and cars and the paper said the resurgence in the color brown on modern cars has something to do the trend towards premium coffees. I guess when you pay 12$ a pound for coffee you start appreciating the color brown.

The great thing about brown is it is a sleeper color. It doesn't catch your attention like some of the other colors. White is too boring for a sportscar: red, yellow, bright blue and bright green are a little too much attention. You look like a discerning "adult" sportcar enthusiast in a brown metallic 911.

The car in the link is hardly brown. There is too much red in it for it to really be brown, or at least for it to have the horridness of brown. Especially when its as shiny as the car pictured it looks pretty nice I think.

I love white on a sports car.

I LOVE brown cars I have had two and I think both looked great in brown. 1988 ford F-150 w/ topper and a 1984 chevy caprice classic w/ lighter brown roof no porshe 911 though

I just got a stiffy.

I'm half-tempted to paint my Lotus that colour just to piss people off. There are way too many red ones out there for me to keep it original.

Brown Porsches are the $h!t (that's a good thing) Someone had to say it.

I likes me a Cayman S in Macadamia Metallic - looks good enough to lick. (is something wrong with me?)

I came very close to buying a cocoa brown BMW 2002...it was an auto, but the price was challengeworthy...

The only way I would buy a brown Porsche is if I had budgeted for paint. But there were a few cars in that thread that did look very nice. I don't mind looking at them, I just wouldn't want to own one.

I think brown is the perfect sleeper color, porsche or anything else

It seems every time I've ever been really looking for a specific Porsche, the best one I find, is always brown. I've had a brown 924, a brown 911 and a brown 928. I have to admit, the color is growing on me. Maybe that means I should get some penicillin before it gets worse

i have been a fan of the UPS color scheme for years now. It looks at home on almost any car.

Great understated colors but really really makes it stand out

A friend of mine has a 911 cabrio in that color. I believe Nougat was offered in 88 only.

I love brown cars.

This is my definition of Porsche.

'Course, I wouldn't kick this one out of bed for eating crackers.

And this is not the brown I think of, but I do like this one.

That brushed SS Targa hoop against the brown makes me weak.

I've always loved the earlier 911 Targas. The E36 M3 brown color just makes the whole thing.
