Exige/Elise or NSX is a toss up for me.
The 650I is where I need the vomitting emoticon. The only Bangle design that is uglier/dumber looking is the 750Li. A 4000 pound 2 seater?
I like the old school 8 series, but I wouldn't touch an old BMW 12 with a 10 foot pole. I'll settle for a few less ponies and get an 840i

Per normal German procedure, the car is electronically limited to 155. According to published reports it will do 193 if you disable the limiter. Calculations show that with it's 0.30 drag coeficient, 19.5 sq ft frontal area, and 3781 lb curb weight it would take 304 hp to reach 190 mph. I'm betting it would do it.
The interior of the Six series is really nice. On the other hand, the driving dynamics leave something to be desired. After flogging them for a weekend at the BMW M School, I'd rank the M cars M3 > M5 > M6 in terms of desirably.
How is it that a vette with more Hp - less weight and a better C/D unlimited won't do that and a BMW will - keeping in mind when responding I worked @ GM for years as a marketing manager and know the #'s...a z06 with 505hp goes 198. 145hp more and 600# less.
This thread is getting fulll of mis information from 30K cheap F355's to well.. everything else. a 997 turbo won't hit 200mph, unless my subscription to excellence is lying to me.........

Weight isn't a large contributor to top speed.
It might take longer to get there, but something heavier will reach a similar top speed as something lighter, everything else being equal.

I'm with you. I have not done the math, but that seems hopelessly optimistic unless they are flat out lying about horsepower.

Is the vette limited on the top end by gearing and redline rpm? That being said, the BMW might have the same limits, but they wouldn't show in the calculations used.

I didn’t drive a 6 series yet, but a similar year M3 vert are selling for the same amount. As much as I would like to have something like a Elise or M3, I unfortunately drive 90% of the time on the highway and 7% of the time in the city/suburbs so really the driving dynamics would only come into play a small percentage of the time.
My last job, I had some really nice roads to play on with my Miata and I didn’t need to have car seats in the back.
Lots of factors contribute to top speed, including the accuracy of published numbers probably. Though usually only the Italian cars exaggerate. The fat tired Vette is wider and punches a larger hole in the air. That may be two factors in performance. Besides bragging rights, top speed means very little. If I was GM I would have massaged a couple of more hp out the engine to reach the magic 200 mark. Haven't found too much inaccuracy here except maybe a few dreaming of cars that aren't (yet?) available for under $30K.

Hmmm... I looked back through the posts and didn't see anyone claiming 200mph for a 997 Turbo. The discussion here has been about the 996 Turbo. The claim made was that the 996 Turbo laps the 'ring as fast as a C5 Z06. That is true according to FastestLaps.com with both cars coming in at a 7'56". Pretty darn quick for under $30K by any measure. Fastest of all the cars on the list.
I also already pointed out that I was wrong on the F355, but keep rubbing it in.

If μk (can one use subscripts on here?) is equal, wouldn't there be more friction at play on the heavier car?
...or on the car with awd, or bigger displacement, or larger contact patches. but any of these forces are nominal compared to the aero drag.

Which begs the question, why do so many owners modify them with cheap aftermarket wheels and bodykits, ruining the beautiful lines?

basically kids easily impressed by flashy stuff fwiw, other than pics on the interwebz, most of the FDs I see have retained the stock body components.
That profile shot goes to highlight just how wonderfully proportioned the FD really is; a classically good looking car.

There's an FD for sale in the back of our favorite magazine - super low mileage (under 20k miles, IIRC). I want it pretty badly.

No joke, that will go down as one of the best looking cars of all time. I don't mean best 3 or anything crazy like that, but it's definitely in the top 25-50.
The FD Rx7 is getting lots of love here. It's a good value with examples starting around $12K and pristine examples around $20K. Not bad for a (not too distant) future collectable car. Less than 14,000 were ever made. Performance is near supercar levels with mid 5's to 60 and a 160mph top speed. There are pretty complete used car buyer's guides available online. Watch out for thrashed and salvage cars.
I love the FD. I can just imagine Barrett-Jackson 20 years from now:

I've been going back and forth for months between a few "budget" supercars and after looking at cost of ownership,consumables, price of parts and labor i've decided i'll be buying a C5Z in the next 6 months or so. Its the part bin engineering that is the corvettes strongest and weakest feature all rolled into one lol
