What Hyundai? Just won our local STS class with a 2002 Elantra GLS. Great car, but not suited for Spec 89 Civic Si. . . I mean STS.
Switch to a lightweight 15x7, shoot for a 38-40 offset and a 195/50/15 Re-01R and the car will feel a lot better. Next, go with a 2003 GK rear bar with the hard ride and the H&R Coilovers. Hawk HPS pads for it and enjoy.
Yeah, the GK rear bar is a direct swap to the RD/J2 platform. The rear drums are actually the better option on these cars AS LONG AS you aren't road racing. for auto-x's and the occasional PDX/HPDE the drums will be perfectly fine, cost you nothing to maintain and offer good braking. Now the front swap to non-captive rotors is a no-brainer!
Shoot. . .start up a thread here and/or join some of the Hyundai boards for more info. Elantraxd.com, CrookedH.com, Elantraclub.com are all good resources full of knowledge.
No problem! RD is very . . . umm. . . .blingish IMO. Not my style. Check out ElantraXD (remember, the Elantra is a 4dr Tib). IIRC, I was last November's COTM there. you can see my "style".
I'm a Hyundai, GM, suzuki lover. All the others are either overpriced or trying too hard.

Oh. . . you went all big block on their asses! Nice! We loved the 01 GV we had. Low range was unbelievable, the suspension travel was amazing and it's overall durability and versatility sold us. The wife still misses hers. But then she drivesthe truck and forgets all about it!

Kevin from Head Solutions dropped off the head at work yesterday. So last night I sat everythign together to see if I really wanted to paint the head too. . .still haven't decided. HE also left me all the valves. Looks like at least 6 are bent/tweaked, maybe all 8.

OK, engine, trans are back in. THings are FINALLY going back together. . . found more rust. Great. :banghead: But at least it looks good damnit! Kyle and Don, a couple of friends I work with came over and we put it in, and tore apart the old shortblock. It's good. SOme retard put in what appearsto be stop leak though. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot was he thinking?

No way you're crazy. Sub-compact is the only way to fly, just don't do like me and wind up in some obscure mod class with all the go-karts 
No sir. . . building her for Spec Civic. . . I mean STS. I'm convinced that 89 Civic Si is NOT the only answer. . . and I'm gonna try to prove it!
It isn't hard to end up in a mod class. Heck, I replaced the steering wheel in my Miata with a Sparco (I sit closer to the airbag that I would prefer), and that alone throws me into Mod. OF course, I also have made the wheel detachable, just to make it less tempting to the local thieves. ONe could argue that thsi gives me a performance advantage since it's in a different position (even closer to me).
Well, a lot of things have transpired in a short time. A bad ECU and oil condemned the previous car, but a small accident that put $800 in my pocket allowed me to pick up a better starting point.
So, two weeks ago we picked up a running/driving 94 GT with 199k miles. brought it home in a blizzard. This past Sunday, we pulled bothe engines/trans and swapped the old GT trans onto the new rebuilt engine and reinstalled. . .after 10 hours of work, here it is. . .running!!

Ok, it idles great now. Forgot to cap an extraneous vacuum port and sealed the fast idle valve deal on the back side. Installed the 15's. 15x6.5 and a +35mm offset are a perfect fit. Tight, but perfect. THe fronts only rub at full lock. the rears clear the inner structure with about 1/2" to spare. It's tight.
And a gratuitous engine shot. . I'm proud of how it looks!

Just when you think your engine bay is perfect, someone drops in a shiney new motor and it all looks like crap. Please post some burnout photos. 
Hey, the 1.0 that was in my Metro is living in New Jersey now. Guy's gonna put it in the front of a 1972 Mini Cooper. He didn't want to go crazy with power because with 10" tires it wouldn't hook up.

Back when I was writing for GRM (a loooong time ago), I drove a Swift GTi at one of the test sessions we had in Palm Bay. In fact, I even remember taking it to work with me one day. Had the pulse rate of a hummingbird; made me grin just flinging it around. But I also remember a huge gap between the first and second gear ratios. Have you noticed that yet?
^ I've read that everywhere. Heard that "The gearing is terrible!!!!" But I cannot say it feels any different between 1-2 as either of my Hyundai's do in the limited driving I've done. But then again, I got all of about 12 miles on the car before I tore it apart to put the new engine/clutch in.
I have to say, that with an open header, this thing is absolutely BRUTAL on the ears. . . and puts a stupid grin on the face.

Work 96th/Keystone, live NW side out by Zionsville/Brownsburg. The Elantra is a DD'er and currently has 102k on it.
Yeah.... i think i've seen it. There's another guy down in Greenwood with a grey elantra lowered with some nice rims, too. I've seen him with autox stickers on it before.
Love the Swift, but i hate you for putting another car on my "will own someday" list. 
You better hurry. These things are rotting away faster than they're bing saved. Add in the limited numbers of them to start with. . . you should make it a "sooner rather than later"
Lots ofthings happened since my last visit. . .what you see there is the aftermath....
Drove it to work, died halfway there. Drug it home to find the exhaust cam off 10 teeth. Dove further to find oil starvation on the top end, DESTROYED the head I just had done. So Friday night I pulled the head, swapped it with the head that came out of the car and swapped oil pumps. Checked the mains/rods and they were perfect. Oil pump was for a SOHC, DOHC requires a lot more volume, hence the cooked cams. Got it all together sat morning, drove it onto the trailer to get the exhaust done, trailer blew a tire halfway there. Got the exhaust done by my co-driver, then drove the car home.
I'm tired! But glad it's running/driving.
