A friend of mine is going to be in Chicago this weekend, and while he's there he's looking at buying a 2001 330i. The last few cars he's bought I've checked them out for him, and he's hoping to find someone that can look at it for him up there, whether it be a professional mechanic or otherwise. Pretty much just a basic look over, make sure everything works, check for leaks, check bushings and ball joints, etc. He's willing to pay. Any ideas?

I'm in Grayslake - (northwest suburbs). I've only driven one 330i - a few years ago, but I've owned 4 earlier bmws - picking up an e36 tomorrow.

I'm real close to oldtin. I've never driven a 330i (I don't think), but have owned (and dad still owns them) 2 BMW's, and have driven 1 in anger and 3 others not in anger. Where is the car?

EDIT: Oldtin would be a better bet than me for checking. I'm probably more likely to miss something

Oldtin, what E36 are you getting?

318ti - found a 95 (m42 engine) an lsd, dinan chip and good records. High miles though - might drive it until it breaks - but an s52 would fit in it very nicely - which would make it a lightweight m3.

Awesome! One of my favorite all time engines, and aside from that, we've thought long and hard about the ti. Just never found the right one.

normally I'd offer my place to check it out, but this weekend I'm occupied totally.
