I've never been to the challenge, but from what I understand, the car's level of "interestingness" is more based on its performance than its street appeal. I get the impression that if a Yugo shows up and spanks a Ferarri, the Yugo is the far more un-boring car.

I get the feeling its about showing your best abilities and making your car perform regardless of what it is.

What do you want to do? What is going to be the most fun for you? Is the car too boring for you?

    In reply to Mowry:

The Challenge is a drag race, an autocross, and a concourse. Any car that does well at all three is not "boring". Don't forget that the whole reason the Challenge exists is just to show everyone that having fun with cars doesn't have to be expensive! IMO, there are no "boring" cars at the Challenge.

IIRC, Dave Rosenblum's ICY team ran Saturns in IMSA RS for awhile. Parts are out there, it just takes a lil' bit to find them. My old girlfriend had an SC1 coupe for awhile, it was a pretty cool car.

It would look way cooler on fire.

I hear you can get high concours scores this way, just say you're going for the "real flame" look.........

Is he trying to put out the fire with a cello case?

And to the OP, I agree with friedgreencorrado. Any car purpose-built/modified for the challenge instantly becomes interesting, no matter what it is.

Um...I'm pretty sure the guy already said he was coming, right?

Post like these are exactly why I want to do this event someday. I know that I have nowhere near the fabrication skills or knowledge to build a front-running car. But I think I can build something that won't embarass me, and I don't really care anyhow, I just want to go for the experience of the whole thing.

Tom, my friend. Have I got a plan for you.

    All with barely any fabrication.

One that will provide serious smack down at the autocross.

And it's NOT an Alfa. (which means I can't own it, and my time is kinda limited, but you are a good driver, so you don't need me in Florida).

    OK, so definitely coming now...

...just got back from the Great Lakes Divisional, and even with my crappy driving skills I finished as the top "not a Civic Si" in ST. All that with dried-out Falkens and a fat, not terribly smart driver!

I DO see why they call it "Spec Si."

ROFL! Mowry, me too. Tim & Amy Smith (2008 Nat'l Champs) run down here in Atlanta, and there's a pack of Si on their trail.
