Ive been wrenching on the challenge car everyday for like 2 months now and its all just exactly the same. I have no idea if Ill be able to finish it, if the motor home can make it to FL, or if either of them will run properly. The time is drawing close something like 11 weeks right?(I cant be the only one counting) anyway is anybody else's project in danger of failing so miserably? Lets share stories it will make me feel better.

I have a back-up plan my DD neon and a lot of nitrous

Yep, I can relate. Since I haven't found ANYONE willing to help, I've been working on mine, by myself, pretty much every day since I lost my job in April and a few weekends before that. My dad has assisted a little but he has his own issues (roof repair, timing belt on his A4, etc)

I'm finally ready to start laying paint.

The torque tube is still apart because I can't find a replacement bearing carrier.

The cylinder head isn't ready to go back on the engine, so no EFI yet.

    Electrical hasn't really started either.

Can't put the transmission or suspension in because the engine and driveline aren't ready.

front and rear wheel bearings need to be repacked. brake lines bent, bleed, etc.

Of course if I were aiming for October, I'd probably not be in that bad of shape. However, I've got until early August to finish it.

Of course my better half is trying to figure out how to even afford the trip if I do make the car functional in time. I think I might be lucky to afford a flight.

So yeah, I'm pretty much at the wall and I doubt even with a ton of monkey's I'll make it. Of course all of the noise I made about the West Coast event, I feel like a complete dufus because I probably won't make it. Sigh, nothing like eating crow and feeling like a bit of a failure!

Think of it this way: At least you have a backup plan.

My challenge car is sitting in the garage but I've done little to no work on it yet.

I'm hoping to get a couple odds and ends done this weekend so I can drive it.

If you ever need any help, I work in your town and I don't live terribly far away. Hell, I used to live in the same neighborhood as you.

I have a shell bolted to a rotisserie. Motor is in itty bitty pieces. Some parts in storage, some in the basement, some in some buckets under a workbench. If all goes well, I may have a slow, ill-handling ugly beast or can't find cheap wheels & tires (I need eclipse wheels 5 on 4.5 for the offset - need something like 40mm offset for rears). I have budget buster wheels/tires so far. Been going it alone pretty much. The best thing so far is that an mgb converter let me have a go at his reject parts pile in trade for my front crossmember.

Since the eve of $2008 Challenge and the fire, my car has actually gone backwards in terms of progress. Forward and back and forward, currently back.

You sound like you're right on track.

The Solo Nationals is in 6 weeks. I'm autocrossing on 5 of the weekends between now and then. 4 of these are Sat-Sun events. Challenge car is yet to be started, and likely won't until after Nats.

I really liked it so much better in the spring time.
