    I was at the junkyard today and they had pulled in a 91 Ford Escort GT. I took the rims from it, since they were 15" and had a 4x100 bolt pattern even though I knew the center bore was a bit too small to fit on my Golf.

    From what I have found, the center bore on the Escort was 54.1 and the bore on the VW is 57.1 Is that too much for a machine shop to remove from the rim?

    I think this is something that the machine shop will have to decide.

    I also think the answer will depend greatly on which machine shop you ask.

    There is a lot of metal there.

    It's not that big a deal. I think the rims will fit on a Miata and a few other cars as they stand.

    Shouldnt be a problem. I and some friends of mine have had it done. I prefer that over the spacers. That being said I just ordered a set of wheels for my CRX. Tirerack is sending me the centre bore spacers for them. Ive never had wheels with spacers before and I admit Im wondering how well they will work.

    Just make sure you get them made of metal rather than the plastic ones. Have had problems with the plastic ones melting from brake heat in competitive situations.

    I ran the plastic ones for a decade on my ITB VW without a problem. Never melted them at all. I'm sure there are varying grades of plastics in use. Metal is the better choice if you can get them, but I'll bet the ones from TireRack will be plastic.Try 'em and see .

    Thanks for the replies. I'll shop them around after I clean them up a bit to make sure there are no cracks or such. Like I meant to say in my post above, if I can't get them done it won't be a big deal because I'm pretty sure I can sell them for close to what I paid for them.

    3mm = ~.120

    Removing stock whether it's 1/8 inch or 8 inches, same amount of setup work.
