I'm sourcing an el-cheapo turbo setup on the '90 Civic I just bought, and I'm having serious sticker shock at the price of the silicone couplers for the intercooler tubing. I get that I can use the Home-Depot rubber pipe couplers in most places, but they look kinda janky. Does anyone know of a cheap source for the silicone couplers? Grainger, etc.?

I used to order from CX Racing.... decent product at good prices. Their customer service blows the big one, and good luck if they mess up your order. (And they will, eventually.)

That's when i switched to siliconeintakes. Crazy-go-nuts fast shipping, order is always right, and same prices as CX Ricing.

I am going to need more soon, I'll definitely check them out, thanks.

Go to NAPA buy big rig stick heater hose, usually good to 90psi @ insane working temps. We've had them on our XR4 boosted to 30psi for 4 years, lots of couplers, no degredation, fraction the cost of silicone. In fact, all 3 silicone couplers we've had have burst due to proximity to heat or slight rubbing, most are pretty thin...

go on ebay, there was a company selling stainless t-bolt clamps (the kind that actually clamp, not worm style clamps) for around $1/apiece which is cheaper than dirt once you realize what they are/do...

Try a big truck parts dealer, the silicone hose couplers for the big trucks are alot cheaper than from the perfomance industry.

Race Part Solutions and Silicone Intakes have never done me wrong.

I have had a few cars with the semi truck hose, but its a hassle. The hose is stiff and ugly, and good luck getting it together if the pipes you have are slightly oversized or have a large bead.

Sometimes Flyin Miata has couplers in their deal of the day section. I'm not sure how good those prices are (having never needed to shop for them) but I can tell you those are some good guys that work there.

I have probably the cheapest prices around on silicone couplers. I have more, I am just the website getting off the ground and most of my time is spent in the machine shop.

    In reply to 92CelicaHalfTrac:

Sorry I am just starting to move domains. So it might be a tad flakey while links get redirected. Also the templates gotta go for something better so things may move around a bit or be down, hopefully not for more than a few hours though. I actually checked out the mediakit already but their banner prices are pretty high considering site viewership and how well placed in my niche it is. My marketing budget right now is not enough to cover them and the other sites I sponsor.

As business grows my marketing budget will too. GRM is definitely on my list of sites to advertise on.

Well said on both counts. You don't have to advertise to hang out, but if you're going to sell stuff and post links offsite, please help us keep the lights on.

And of course, welcome to the party!

Dude, you need to brush up on your GRM forum etiquette, not to mention your business sense.

I know a lot of guys in the rubber hose world.

I know I can get silicone radiator hoses in 3' lengths but I don't think it is the same?

I agree 100%, but in cases of reducers, there aren't many cheap options. I have put a small piece of 2.25" hose on something then use a 2.5" hose as a coupler if I had to go from 2.25" to 2.5", but that's if I'm in a pinch.

Dude. I'm liking the big-rig heater hose idea....is it stout enough to hold up to the temperatures of the turbo inlet? That XR picture above seems to indicate that it is.

Frankly, I don't think it looks all that bad, either. I'm kinda of going for a stealth look here anyway, so I think this plus some satin black steel piping will go a long way towards reducing the bling underhood.

He was not asking to purchase products from you, it was more a polite request to pay for advertising on a site that is someone else's business.

  • April 23, 2011 1:22 p.m. TurboCNC New Reader

Yes my reply was to show I am interested in advertising here but probably not before August. Hence why I said to give me a call around August. Pretty much the same thing I told to Internet Brands (owners of Honda-Tech, LS1Tech) VWVortex, etc.

All the sites that want $300+/mo for a banner and a sponsor section are scheduled to call around that time when I will know better how well business is taking off and I can move away form Adwords and cheap sites. Believe me when I say I am a huge believer in advertising.
