I'm kinda partial to LBCs and from time to time I'll head over to http://www.britishv8.org/ and dreams for a few hours. FWIW - small block fords fit really well into a bunch of the LBCs.

    Here's a photo of a clean sbf install in a TR6:

I recently passed a TVR out in the country. Fine looking vehicle. I imagine they are hard to acquire though.

I'm thinking of a toy that I could build on weekends for under $20,000.

Well it sounds like a Triumph Stag would fit the bill, smallish, sweet V8, and a convertible; also I just happen to have a project one I am looking to sell

I have a hotted up Triumph TR8. Love it. TR8's are exclusive due to their low numbers and are priced right. You can pick up a really good one for under 10 K.

5.0 t5 fc would be doable on a pretty tight budget.

I dream about someday owning an old miata and putting a v-8 in it, for now I just thank youtube for allowing me to live vicariously through others. I've also been thinking a little about yanking the turbo engine out of my volvo brick but I'll probably just end up hotrodding it until I blow it up, then do the 5.0 swap.

For a small V-8 that you can buy and not have to build, I can't see why someone wouldn't go out and get a fox based mustang GT or LX as suggested by at least one other person.

Minus the portholes this is a very clean, sleeper, V8 MGB.

The downside with the older vehicles is that they demand a somewhat higher buy in price because they are getting classic. The FC RX7 and Mustang Convertible are both pretty cheap because they are still pretty common.

That MG is sweet. Are those fenders stock or flared a bit? Whats under the hood?

More info on that MG: http://www.britishv8.org/MG/DonAllen.htm

And yes, they're flared. Stock MG fenders are flat. Those are flares from an Omni. I can think of another V8 MG that's more of a sleeper, but that's just me.

Some of the older vehicles are getting more expensive, but not all. I have an MGB GT in my driveway that was given to me in part exchange for troubleshooting a Midget, and it would have been a perfect base for a V8 swap if I didn't already have one underway. MGBs have had a lot of V8s stuffed inside over the years, it's a pretty well-trodden path with a strong support structure. And perfect if you think lever arm shocks are the pinnacle of suspension technology

My first plan with my MG was to buy a Fox Mustang Convertible and use it as a powertrain donor.

God forbid you get something with a bit of class like a mercedes 560sl or euro 500sl. They basically have about the same amount of power, but the 500sl is a slightly more interesting car. The other options sound like a compromise to me and a good mercedes v8 vert isn't all that expensive. A 5.0 stanger isn't nearly as interesting as a funky old mercedes for around the same price.

this is true. Buy an old MB with a dead motor and cram an LSx into it for something VERY interesting
