Were these cars ever sold in the US? I saw one in a customers garage today and noticed the Maserati trident on the engine. Very nice to see something different once in awhile.

They are pretty cool, but not in a way that id want to own one. Amazingly complicated, and they take alot of maintaince. For example, the engine is mounted backwards like a saab 900, and it has a timing chain that must be retensioned every 6k miles, and replaced every 30k (at least from what i read). If I could borrow a fully insured one for a week, id do it for sure, but to own one, no thanks. lol

Watch the first few minutes of the original "The Longest Yard" movie with Burt Reynolds. While it's unfortunate that the car gets killed at the end of the scene, you get to watch it make some pretty nifty moves in the chase.

From what I've read, the suspension components are actually easy to rebuild despite looking terrifyingly alien to almost everything else.
I think there is a video on Jay Leno's site discussing the SM too.

I've always loved these and even got to look at one up close while I loaded groceries into it years back when I worked at a grocery store.

I had one as a Daily driver 10 years ago. Along with a BMW Bavaria. You had to have a 2nd car because if anything broke it was 3 weeks to get a part. It got 11 mpg was fairly quick, I had to work on it every other weekend. There are 2 sets of points and 2 coils. That got old and expensive fast. There is a person in AZ that did a coversion so you could use a Buick v6 and Gm delco parts. After that the car was pretty dependable. However with all Citroens you are also fixing fluid leaks every few months. I sold it when it got to 200k miles.
Now I only have a DS 21.
