Shopping for one today, and I see some are metal, but others for about $8 less are advertised as being "composite." Don't know what this means and site does not give details. Anybody have any experience with these? Going on a d16y7 Civic motor. Thanks.

Metal ones typically mean a close to mirror smooth surface on the head and block is required to seal it up.
Unless your car had a metal head gasket from the factory OR you have a freshly machined block and head and are going for big numbers with boost or spray, stick with a name brand composite head gasket. If all else fails, get an OEM one unless there is a documented aftermarket brand that is known to be superior.

I use OE metal gaskets anywhere the rulebook allows me to. Not having to deal with headgasket schmang is awesome.

Go with an OEM head gasket.

OEM is multi-layer metal. It does require smooth and accurate surfaces, but if everything is right, it's the best gasket to use by far.
