The steering rack on my 94 civic ex has a lot of play in it, even after replacing the outer tie rods. I've had civics in the past that didn't have power steering and actually prefer the feel. I'm thinking that since a new rack is in order and my power steering lines have a slow leak somewhere, that replacing the rack with a non-powered unit sounds like a good idea. Are the outer tie rods the same on models with and w/o power steering?

Um. Dunno. When I have a question like this, I'll usually go look the parts up on Rock Auto and a couple other parts Web sites and compare part numbers. If they are the same, you are golden.

My 93 Civic had a lot of play in it also and saw it was my inner tie rods (around $80 a pair). Once I replaced that steering felt great (welll much better than before). Steering is not as direct as my 91 Civic Si.
