So I am trying to clean an aircooled engine and I am not sure how to get in between the fins. Any suggestions? A toothbrush is to wide.

Don't really have time or room for that. The gun bore brush idea should work well.

Scotchbrite pad folded in 2 over a paint stirrer stick + a squirt of Berkbile 2+2 or lacquer thinner.
I just did some very filthy Yamaha RD400 cylinders and it worked very well.
That said, if they're loose parts a blast cab is perfect. Unless you're going to hone 'em while they're off be very mindful to plug the bores though...

I think they are going to need to be honed since the engine was sitting in pieces in a shed for who knows how long before I got it.
