I saw a small mention of UV blocking window tint that's clear here recently. I would like to know more about it. Who want to teach me?

Do the "no-tint-on-the-windshield' laws apply if they "tint" is clear? It'd be nice to block all the UV from there too

if some of it accidentally falls onto the license plate, will it screw with photo ticket machines and police radars? i just want to know, you know, in case some of it accidentally fell onto a license plate or chrome bumper or something..

I had some hair spray fall on a license plate - it messed up the photo radar image thingies. Bugger of a time getting it to stay off, too.

Man, ive been wondering about clear tint for windshields for years! Props to this thread!!
However.. it says it has 89% vlt.. what im wondering is it thats a low enough number that you can tell its not clear by looking at it. Anyone have any personal experience?

It is smoke and mirrors type deal , infrared heat has to be blocked if you are going for heat rejection . Huper optik sech film blocks 63% of the heat and allows 70% visibility . Meaning high heat rejection and almost clear looking in and out. So you have to have some amount of color/density/shading in film .
I hear MMM tortured ,killed a crap load of butterflies studying their wings to make this film .
You can use a 50% or 70 percent on windshields without big brother noticing to much <<<<< but any film below the as1 number on the windshield is illegal by federal law . Windshield tearoffs by the way being clear still block 14 % of the heat .

Only the cameras that operate in the IR or UV range of the spectrum and ignore visible light. Normally, if you can see the plate number, so can the cops.

It's ridiculously expensive. I can't give the actual cost since I'm a dealer but it's almost 3 times as much as regular tint. I wouldn't touch a job with this tint for less than $500. It's also not totally clear, it kind of looks like a MB AMG with a slight blue hue to it. Good stuff and it works, but not justifiable unless you've got a real high end car.

It's 3M. That's why. Everything they make has become stupid expensive. Their sandpaper is more expensive than Norton and doesn't work nearly as good. I picked up some Norton 2in discs to grind welds and they lasted twice as long as 3M....also were .50c less each.
