Thanks so much guys for all the replies and suggestions. I KNEW I had a more GRM type attitude towards this than a PCA/POC type attitude. Don't get me wrong, those guys sometimes get a bad rap and there are a few that are total dicks, but most of them are just car enthusiasts like the rest of us. They are just very loyal to the marque. There is always plenty of trash-talk and joking around and practical jokes, and generally a lot of fun. But, those guys would rather park the Porsche in the garage for 2, 3, 5, 10 years and go back to having fun with a Porsche again when they can afford it.
I am in no way worried what they will say. They will make fun of me, no matter what I get, and I will make fun of them no matter what they have. It's just what we have always done. Heck, my buddy has a beautiful gulf blue and gulf orange 911, but for whatever reason they left the door jams sepia brown. We tease him mercilessly about those.... and he teases us mercilessly when he constantly beats us, with a slower car
In looking for a 510, they seem to be really tough to come by even here in So Cal. That should make the smart part of my brain say "move on" but the dumb part of my brain seems to be dominant.
I saw a great e30 325is with all kinds of upgrades for less than $7k. There are also some decent e36M3's in the $9-10k range. I'm still thinking about this. I really don't want to deal with rust. I've had enough rust to deal with in my Porsche experience. I punted three of the six 911's I have owned because they were too rusty. Thankfully the two I have now are very dry cars. beware of cheap Porsche's.
Even the go kart suggestion is great.... I do still want to do track days with PCA, just for the trash talking and camaraderie so I'm going to have to stick with a car.
