    In reply to DaewooOfDeath:

When I glanced at the page my first thought was, "that looks like something Peter Egan would do". That would be loads of fun on the street.

I remember reading that article in R&T.

I like the byline..."photos by the author, Barbara Egan, Chris Beebe & some guy who was just standing around."

I remember reading that when it came out - great article and thanks for reminding me of ii. It's been festering in the back of my mind as one of the reasons I may drive my homebuilt car cross-country, just because I want the memory of having done so. The trick is to avoid harsh weather!

A good read, but that's true of most of Egan's work.

I don't even need to look at the article to start quoting lines from it, it's so memorable. One of his best.

I love Peter Egan's writing. He's the erudite car guy I'd love to be. But you know who I'd really like to hear from? His ever-patient wife Barb. She's put up with such insanity for so long, and with such good grace. And I bet she's got great stories that even Peter is far too embarrassed to admit to...

One time (at the Colorado Lotus get-together) I got to sit and talk with Barbara Egan (had her all to myself, she was knitting) for about an hour while Peter was out on a drive. I find it facinating to talk to the wives of interesting guys, as you get a very enlightened perspective on what makes both of them tick.

I did get to hear some things about Peter that I haven't seen anywhere, and it helped explain why he is the way he is. I was very thankful I got to talk to her. Also managed to give Peter a copy of my book later that evening as thanks for the years of reading his columns... don't know if he ever read it, or if it's propping up one corner of his work bench, but whatever, my task was to deliver the book to him, which I did, and my job is done.
